Okay, so we thought that we had the lap top fixed when we "de-bugged" it. A couple of days later it wouldn't even start. Well . . . it would and then it would immediately shut down. :( We were not happy. The next day it would start up and run for a while, and then all of a sudden it shut down. We tried playing with the wires, swabbing connections, plugging and unplugging, plugging and unplugging, shaking and baking, (well we didn't bake it but it ryhmes with shaking) . . . and finally we called it a night.
The next day we started it up again and it works better than ever. We used to always get this screen that warned us about doing a battery check . . . bla, bla, bla, . . . you hit escape and it starts up. Now we don't get that screen anymore, it just fires right up and works. Amazing.
Well, we finally figured out that the battery has finally died and the lap top now only works when it is plugged in. That is now two battery-less lap tops. Not so mobil anymore. I guess we need to check into life support for the lap-tops as they are going to need a hospital room before to much longer. After all the one I use now is 10 years old and only has a pentium chip (top of the line 10 years ago) in it and works about as good as a 90 year old person in good condition.
Anyway, it has been over a week since the Dell has acted up and so we just figured that the battery had a violent, dramatic, and prolonged death. Kind of reminds me of the possim from "Over the Hedge" (voice done by William Shatner). But now that it is completely dead. Don't expect to have anymore lap top adventures for a while.
Well . . . we think we caught a virus on the IBM so we have to play surgen and pull some info off it before reformatting the hard drive and reloading an operating system (it's like using a defibrulator on the heart, scary but benificial at this point in time). I guess you might have more lap top adventures after all . . . but hopefully not until after we get back from our Trip through UT and ID. More on this in a few weeks . . .
