California Visiting the Fam!

So I flew directly from Boston, MA to San Jose, CA (for the flight saga, read my last post)where I spent a few days with my family there. My mom, who is AWESOME, was my chauffeur (thank you spell check) for the weekend. On Friday morning we went to summer school and met the teacher my mom worked for last year, Jen. My mom has been an aide in special needs pre-school for...um...a really long time. I remember her starting the year I was in 6th grade. If I did my math right, I think this is her 20th year...wow! She has moved schools a few times and has worked with many different teachers. This year she will be back at Jackson Elementary, the school all of us kids attended! She's come full circle!

After we visited with Jen we went to Sunnyvale and visited with my friend Tierney and her new baby, Evan! What a fun visit! We got to hear about the fun things they do and I got to get my baby fix! That's what this trip was about! Mom then took me out to lunch and shopping. We got back to Morgan Hill just in time for our nail appointments. I love the massage chairs you sit in while they do the pedicure! Fun! After dinner we did some more shopping. Fun! We ended the day with a session in the HOT TUB! Nice!

On Saturday we went to the Farmer's Market. Here's some of the sights we saw while there:
Who knew? Carrots come in other colors besides orange? The white ones are sweeter than the rest!
They had a kids area where parents could help their kids with an art project.
Before going to the Farmer's Market, I went searching for my favorite black sweater...could not find it anywhere! I thought I might have left it in Vermont, so I called Adrianne and Mike and left a message asking if they had seen it...they had not. I found a phone number for JetBlue and left a message at their baggage claim in SJC asking if they had seen it. I did not think I would ever see it again. My mom, bless her, even offered to buy me another one (she bought the original in January during her trip to AZ). I let it be and to my surprise, a woman from JetBlue called and said they had it in the lost and found, I just needed to come pick it up at the ticket counter. They fly very few flights out of SJC and the ticket counter is only open for a few hours every night. I only Sat and Sun night, due to traveling south on Monday, away from SJC. I talked it over with my parents and Mom decided to stay home and get started painting while we went to retrieve my sweater. Here's a picture of the guy who went to the lost and found and brought me my sweater. He was shy at first, but eventually consented to having his picture taken for the blog!

This is Daisy. We got Daisy from the Garth Woodland Family (now living in Colorado) when I was 13. If you do the math, that means she is 17 years old! She sleeps a lot! This is her perch at the top of the stairs. She is almost always there. If she is not, she is in my parents room asleep in her heated bed. That's right, the cat's bed is heated...spoiled, if you ask me! Not only is her bed heated, but she has litter boxes and food/water dishes in multiple places through out the house. My mom says this is the case because she would have accidents around the house. She could not get to her litter box in time, she's too old. I think my mom is telling the truth. Daisy can hardly go up and down the stairs anymore. I think she's on her way out, but my mom needs to come to term with that before she puts Daisy out of her misery.

Daisy actually came down the stairs and wanted to go outside! It didn't last very long, but I was still so amazed that I took a picture!
Yes, Daisy, you do want to go outside...go on...you whined at the door to have it opened...now you're undecided...you can do it...and she EVENTUALLY did!

While Dad and I were going to SLC for sweater retrieval, Mom got started on her painting project.
Armed and Dangerous!
I didn't think it was going to be very successful, but she proved me wrong! She painted ceiling paint right over the popcorn ceiling, cobwebs and all! It took WAY more paint than originally thought, but the difference in the ceiling was astounding!
She finished the ceiling and after our trip to the Central Coast, she came home and painted over the rainbow shown below.
My dad helped me paint the rainbow on the wall while I was in high school and ever since it has been called the Rainbow Room. Now I think I will call it the yellow room. OR, maybe the room formerly know as the rainbow room. That sounds good! Sorry Mom about the oil based red paint! It's not easy AT ALL to paint over! Nor was it easy to clean out of the bath tub after I cleaned out the paint brush! Sorry!

Dad and I got back from SJC while Mom was still working and we all came up to watch. Mom wasn't too happy about that. That's Dad peeking his head in. He (and I) was sad that rainbow was going to be painted over, but as they say, all good things must come to an end.
It was during this time that the following conversation took place.

Dad: Debbie, CVS is having a contest about creative ways that their bags are being used besides a grocery bag. I think you should enter.
Mom: Really? I didn't know that! And to think, I didn't even plan this! The bag was just there! I needed something to cover up my hair and I don't have a hair net.
Shari: No, mom, he's kidding!
Mom: What?
I then I got a bit on video! She says that she's going to wet her pants from laughing! I know I almost did!
We all were laughing so hard, I am surprised I even got this much on film!

Most of the time in Morgan Hill this is the view I had of Dad: yep, working. He's a busy guy! Gotta keep IBM selling...hard drives?...to other big companies as well as a ward for the Church functioning, he's the Bishop.
On Sunday we all went to church. It was great to sit in the same pew from my childhood. The ward members have mostly changed, but some the stalwart members are still there; like the Doolittles and the Nicholsons. It felt like a family reunion, but at church!

After church my Woodland Grandparents came over for dinner...Tri Tip! Yummy! We even saved some for my cute husband to have some later. Which we did and it was good! I loved visiting with my grandparents and wish I lived closer to hear more of their wisdom.

Monday morning we packed and got ready to go to Morro Bay, CA where I was going to FINALLY see my husband after 3 and a half weeks! That's for the next post!
