Plumbing Problems

Sorry there are no pictures, I've lost my camera!

Ammon got home from work on Thursday to a rather large puddle on the side yard. Apparently the pipe connecting the water meter to our house broke. Ammon called the city to have them come turn off the water (we don't have the special tool needed). Once the water was off and the city decided it was on the wrong side of the meter, so we had to deal with it instead of them doing it. Ammon called a guy in our ward and he came over and helped Ammon put a temporary fix on the pipe. Ammon went to class and turned the water on when he got back, letting the pipe cement cure. After work on Friday Ammon decided to dig out the pipe all the way to the house since he was going to replace all the pipe anyway. While digging, the pipe came loose of the cement: large puddle #2. Ammon had borrowed the special "turn off" tool from the guy in our ward and quickly got the water turned off. So Friday night we were without water. But we had water storage, so we were able to still refill the tank on our toilet even though the water was not on. Ammon finally decided to call his dad and ask his opinion. Alan came over Saturday morning and helped Ammon fix the joint. We needed to let the glue dry, so the water was still not on. I went to Zumba and took advantage of the showers at the gym! When I got back, Ammon and I finally finished taking down the Christmas lights on the house and in the tree in the front.

Later that evening we turned the water back on and all is well with the pipe. But...you know how one house project leads to another? Well...when we turned the water back on yesterday we noticed that our bathroom toilet kept running even though the tank was full. You know the awful hissing noise that makes? Ammon had fixed our hallway bathroom toilet by bending the rod a bit so the floating thing in the tank met the water sooner, thus stopping the flow of water. Ammon got out the tools last night to do the same thing here. However, the result was different! The metal just snapped! The floating thing came completely off and the tank started filling. I pulled the left over metal bit up until the tank stopped filling and Ammon turned the water off to the toilet. We are going to fix it tomorrow. Thank heavens we have 3 toilets in the house!!
