Pregnancy Update Week 33

So I am 33 weeks pregnant-tomorrow.  I'm feeling the baby kick and squirm and move around TONS!  A few weeks ago I had a doctor's appointment and he told me that it was time for my glucose test to see if I have gestational diabetes. I thought, great, I'll just go and do that right now since the lab is just down stairs.  I told this to the receptionist and she asked if I had been fasting...no...no one told me I needed to do that.  So I had to wait for a few hours for the food to get our of my system then I went to the lab for my test.  The lab was pretty empty.  After drinking the orange tang-like drink, which isn't all that bad, I sat for an hour.  They drew my blood and I went home.

Fast forward 3 WEEKS! Yes, it took 3 weeks for the lab/my doctor to get back to me and let me know that I needed to take the longer 3 hour glucose tolerance test.  Start the freak-out! So we lowered my sugar intake and went in for my next visit to the doctor.  I found out on a Friday that I needed the 3 hour test, but I couldn't take the test unless I scheduled it with the lab and I couldn't do that until the doctor ordered the test to the lab and they wouldn't do that until I called them or came in to the office.  (Sidebar: have you ever read "If you give a mouse a cookie"? It felt like that but backwards).  Anyway, my next doctor's appointment was on Monday, so I went in knowing he was going to ask about it.  I explained that I have not taken the test because I JUST found out on Friday that I need to take.  He dis seem a little concerned that it took 3 weeks, but when I complained to the receptionist, she gave me some lame excuse story about having so many class to make and not having enough time to contact everyone. LAME!

Anyway, so after my appointment I walked down to the lab (my doctor's office is on the 2nd floor and the lab is on the first floor) and scheduled my 3 hour glucose tolerance test for Saturday morning.  They told me this time to fast.

Saturday morning rolled around and I got to the lab a few minutes before 7am, when the lab opened.  The lab is only open until 11am on Saturdays, so I needed to get in and get my test started so they could have the whole 3 hours while they are open.  Anyway, I go there and the line for the lab stretched around the corner and down the hall.  Some people knew they were in for the long haul and brought their own folding chair!  I was shocked! So I got in line and started chatting it up with those around me.  The lab opened and I got nervous.  Was I going to make it to the front in time? Did it matter that I have an appointment? So I asked those around me what they thought and they said that they would hold my spot for me if I wanted to go check to see if my appointment mattered or not.  Well, it did! Hurray! I got my first blood draw at 7:20am, drank the fun tang drink and waited for every hour to pass.  The nice thing about a timed test is that you get called exactly when you need to be and you know exactly how long you're going to be at the lab.  I met many fun people while waiting and those who had "saved" my place in line were happy to know that my appointment mattered.

I am also happy that the results of this test only took a week to get back to me.  I don't have gestational diabetes! Everything came back normal! Yeah! I can eat sugar again!

Only 7 more weeks until our little bundle of joy comes into the world! We are so excited!
