Day 8 - Staycation Saga - Part 2 - Mammoth Hot Springs

When we got to Mammoth hot springs we climbed around on some of the terraces and they seemed a little less active then when I was last here as a small child; but we also learned that things in Yellowstone are constantly changing. Plumbing will get clogged, new holes get eaten in the earths crust, and earthquakes are constantly happening and that causes old “pipes” to disappear and new ones to form. In many places around the park the signs tell you that what you see today will probably be different the next time that you come back. Well, at least there will always be something new to see each time that you visit.

If I remember right, this is the biggest and still most active terrace.

This is Cleopatra Terrace

This is looking down to the other terraces and visitors center below.
This is Palette Spring.

This is a view of Mammoth Hot Springs that we just spent an hour or so hiking around. It is beautiful.

As we were leaving town, after doing some shopping and getting some really yummy Huckleberry BBQ sauce, we saw the following. As city kids, this is now something you usually see. In fact, I can't say that I have ever seen this before. It was such an amazing site that we pulled an U-ie and went back to see it again and take a picture . . .
This was right in the middle of town and it was not the least bit afraid of us. Wow, how wonderful it must be for the wildlife that lives in Yellowstone and surrounding areas.

This is some of the beautiful open country side on our way up to Tower Falls.

Can you find the animal in this picture? You may have to zoom in if your computer allows you to.
